So I have a thing for supplements superfoods. Surprise! While I believe we can get 99% of our necessary nutrition from food, sometimes superfoods and supplements can help when food doesn't quite get the job done. This may mean it helps nutrient absorption, when sometimes the nutrient in a food isn't absorbable on its own in our bodies. It may mean it supplements nutritionist from a food group we don't eat a lot of, this could be dairy or grains (where the nutrients aren't really absorbable anyway...) or if you're a vegan it could be a lack of B vitamins in your diet. Anyway, supplements help us where we lack and where we are stuck. Which is ultimately helpful. Some may be overkill, but many actually give me noticeable benefits. What is Natural Calm? Basically, its a magnesium supplement that restores healthy magnesium levels. Our magnesium levels are often depleted, causing stress and anxiety. When levels of magnesium are low, levels of calcium are often too high. Calcium is the tensing element, while magnesium is the relaxing element. Thus, when our levels of calcium are higher than that of magnesium, we feel the tensing mechanism more than the relaxing mechanism. As a result, anxiety and stress pile on, and our body cannot operate as it should to decrease that effect. Natural Calm, as a magnesium supplement, restores these healthy magnesium-calcium levels to ensure that your body is relaxing just as much as it is tensing. 

What Does Magnesium Do? Magnesium offers many benefits to the body. This article states that If you are deficient, you may experience muscle aches, bad digestion, anxiety, stress, kidney damage (build up of calcium --kidney stones!), PMS symptoms and other nutrient deficiencies.  What magnesium does do is rather important to the body system and can be quite remarkable in improving your lifestyle! It relieves muscle aches and spasms as it plays an important role in neurotransmitter signals, it boosts energy by assisting in the utilization of ATP (hello 10th grade biology!), it calms nerves by balancing stress hormones (serotonin is also dependent on magnesium stores), it can help with sleep problems by relaxing tense muscles and nerves, it helps with digestion by relaxing the stomach muscles, it regulates calcium and potassium levels within the cell membranes contributing to muscle contractions and heart rhythms, it prevents and assists with migraines (again, neurotransmitter assistance) and it helps sustain muscle and bone density. As you can see, magnesium plays a very important role in the body and can really improve your quality of life and your body's condition! 

Am I deficient in Magnesium? Probably. A significant percentage of the population in America are deficient in Magnesium due to poor dietary choices, excessive caffeine, and abundance of stress. Sounds about right. Anyway, being deficient in magnesium is common enough, and when supplemented (with Natural Calm!) you will deffff feel the positive benefits the element provides! 

How do you use it? Natural Calm is one of my favorite superfoods (or supplements) because of the taste. It doesn't taste like some green seaweed (which I also take, but will save for another day), its a lemony, raspberry-y, yummy taste. I usually put a tablespoon-or-so in a mug and add a splash of hot water, stir until the magnesium fizzles and dissolves, then fill the rest of the mug with water. I take it before bed and always fall asleep stress free and wake up happy! Enjoy!
